Scope note:

A colorless liquid ester of acetic acid that has a fruity odor. It is used as a solvent for cellulose nitrate and in the manufacture of products such as celluloid, pyroxylin lacquers, airplane wing dope, photographic film, artificial leather, and safety glass. Because butyl acetate is not hygroscopic and evaporates slowly, it produces smooth shiny, transparent films.
