Anotations

Scope note:

Hypostyle halls, such as a palace or audience hall, typically of stone construction with columns, in Persia or other places. Examples are reception halls in the palaces of Achaemenid rulers at Susa and Persepolis distinguished by six rows of six columns and three columned porticos, each with two rows of six columns. These structures may have functioned as audience halls for the king's court and visiting foreign vassals and ambassadors.
