Scope note:

Mechanized devices that utilitize a pneumatic conveying process to compress webs of cotton fibers into a sliver or roving, as well as to remove dirt or dust from the cotton lint. The devices project a current of cotton laden air against screens made of mesh fine enough to prevent the passage of small fibers. Extraneous matter is extracted from the materials without the loss of valuable fibers, while a suction fan allows for the transport and cohesion of the fibers. Fiber webs are also cut into ribbons by condenser bands, which are then rubbed into round strands of fibres or roving.
