Scope note:

Long staffs often having a pointed lower tip and topped by a knob or hook onto which was attached a gourd (pilgrim's gourd), a cloth tied into a sack, or other item. Used as an aid walking on pilgrimages; some were decorated with religious inscriptions and images.
