Anotations

Scope note:

Valved soprano aerophones first developed in Austria in the 1830s and used there in military bands. Elsewhere it is used primarily in concert bands and jazz bands. A flugelhorn has three valves, a medium sized bell, a conical bore wider than the cornet, and it is usually pitched in B, occasionally in C. It is played with a cup mouthpiece. The term is sometimes used erroneously to refer to soprano and sopranino saxhorns.
