Scope note:

Wall clocks elaborately carved and decorated, usually with floral motifs, that announce the hours by a sound like the call of the cuckoo; often with exposed weights and pendulum. Introduced in the mid-18th century in the Black Forest region, the earliest examples had wooden movements.
