Anotations

Scope note:

Plate glass produced typically by subjecting annealed to glass to high temperatures and rapid cooling, causing the outer and inner layers to cool at different rates, the inner layer staying in a state of tension, and the outer in a state of compression, increasing its impact and thermal strength many times. When surface failure occurs, tempered glass shatters into very small pieces, causing less potential harm from sharp edges. It is used for a variety of applications where safety standards are in place, including windows for cars or homes, shower doors, or tables. It is prized in architectural contexts for its thermal properties and durability.
