Anotations

Scope note:

Talisman objects or numismatic charms used in south China to ward off bad influences. These were made by tying coins together with a cord to one or two iron rods, in the shape of a sword. The coins were often those from the Qing dynasty, specifically from the Kangxi and Qianlong eras, but may also be made from older cash coins. The method of construction and number of coins used was dictated by the concepts of feng shui.
