Scope note:

An architectural movement that had its inaugural milestone in 1914 during a conference at the São Paulo Artistic and Cultural Society and gained visibility from the Commemorative Exhibition of the Centenary of Independence in 1922 in Rio de Janeiro. It sought in the country's traditional constructive forms an architecture that could be local, blending Brazilian colonial architecture with modern techniques. Its objective was to recognize a Brazilian national identity.
