- Plants having seeds inclosed in a seed-vessel possessing the distinctive feature, the flower, which is a cluster of highly-specialized leaves that participate in reproduction. There are perhaps as many as 400,000 species of flowering plants, representing arouind 80% of plants now living. The classification of angiosperms is in flux, with newer divisions called the "APG system" (organized by the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group).
