bolters
- Scope note
- Machines used for sifting, especially flour. These consist of revolving sieves or spinning cloth screens, which are housed in enclosures. The screens have varied mesh sizes, from fine to coarse. The flour enters the bolter at the end with the finest screen, where the lightest part of the flour is separated out. Gravity carries the remaining flour, separating out the finer endosperm from the germ and bran of the wheat.
